Mariechen VonThun age 88 of Clinton, formerly of Goose Lake, passed away Sunday March 28, 2021 at the Sarah Harding Home, Clinton. Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Monday April 5th at the Pape Funeral Home, Clinton. For those attending, family encourages masks to be worn at the service. Burial will be at Rossiter Cemetery. Mariechen was born on Nov. 9, 1932 in Krempermoor, Germany, the daughter of Richard and Bertha Hildebrandt. She was born and raised in Germany before moving to the United States in 1959. She married Dale VonThun on July 9, 1959 in Charlotte, IA; he died in 2020. She was a homemaker and was head chef at Valley Oaks Golf Course and Frontier restaurant. She was a master gardener as well, specializing in flower arrangements.
Mariechen is survived by her two sisters, Elfrieda Zumach Lagerdorf and Ellen Stammerjohann Plon both of Germany; several nieces and nephews; five brothers-in-law, August (Joyce) VonThun Jr. of Fulton, IL, Erich VonThun of Moline, IL, Roland VonThun of Camanche, Stanley (Nancy) Von Thun of Camanche, and Philip VonThun of Moline, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband-Dale, and three sisters-in-law, Judith, Delores, and Phyllis.
I am so very grateful that I got to know you Auntie M. I only wish I would have sooner. I’ll miss you and the laughs we shared I will treasure those memories always. Please hug my momma , my sis. and Gramma Aunt De and of coarse Uncle Dale?I love you Auntie! Until we meet again.
