Leah R. Hyde, age 83 of Bettendorf, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at her home. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Monday, November 15th at Prince of Peace Parish in Clinton. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the Mass on Monday at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Leah was born in Clinton on October 7, 1938, the daughter of Edward and Clara (Smith) Hyde. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1956 and received her BA Degree in Nursing from St. Ambrose College in 1960.

Leah had a passion for helping others. She started her nursing career at Mercy Hospital in Davenport, then moved to Seattle, WA before returning to the Quad Cities in 1970. Upon her return, she worked at Trinity Hospital; Substance Abuse Treatment Center. It was there Leah became more interested in counseling those with abuse problems. While working full time, she pursued further education to achieve her Master’s Degree in Counseling from Western Illinois University in 1987.

Leah began working for the Rock Island Employee Assistance Program (EAP) as a counselor in 1989. During her work at the Arsenal, Leah earned her Employee Assistance Professional Certification. Substance Abuse Counselor Certification, and received many awards including Commanders Coins, exceptional performance ratings, monetary awards, Letters of Commendations and Letters of Appreciation.

One of Leah’s legacies is the Sober Social Living Skills program she initiated and developed shortly after she started working in the EAP. This program is a cooperative effort between management, unions, EAP and Employees who are in trouble at work as a result of their addictions.

Leah enjoyed spending time with her family, including her sister-in-law, Judy Hyde; cousin, Carolyn Graham; nieces and nephews, and her great nieces and nephews. She was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church and the Optimist Club. She had a love of all sports, especially Notre Dame football. She was active in her Condo Association and also enjoyed her social times with her friends, going to movies and dinner.

Leah is survived by her sister-in-law, Judy Hyde of Clinton; nieces and nephews, Sherri (John) Allen of Bettendorf, IA, Deb (Earl) Krogman of Clinton, IA, Terry Hyde of Savanna, IL, Angie (Juan) Torres of Fort Madison, IA, Erik (Amy) Hyde of Greenville, WI, Noele Hyde of Port Angeles, WA and Bart Hyde of Clinton, IA and several great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Lauren and Gene; a nephew, Coley Hyde and a great niece, Kylee Hyde. Memorials may be made to the Kylee Hyde Memorial Fund or the Optimist Club.
