Laurence A. Leonard, age 94 of Clinton, passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2020 at his home. Private services will be held on Monday, December 28th at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery.
Laurence was born in Clinton on November 17, 1926, the son of Floyd and Lemma (Miller) Leonard. He attended Clinton Schools. Laurence served with the US Army, 503rd Army Air Forces Base Unit during WW II. While serving in France he met and fell in love with Nelly Valette. They were married on October 5, 1946 in Paris, France. Laurence was employed with the US Postal Service, retiring in 1982 after 36 years of service. He was a very active member of Christ Episcopal Church, and also belonged to AARP, and NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employee’s). He enjoyed kids, animals and candy.
Laurence is survived by his wife of 74 years, Nelly; a son, Pierre Leonard of Clinton; a granddaughter, Brennan Leonard; a grandson, Booker Collins; 2 great grandchildren; a brother, Floyd (Ruth) Leonard of Princeton, IA and a sister, Joyce Ewalt of Clinton. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dale who was killed in action in the European Theater during WW II. Memorials in Laurence’s name may be made to Christ Episcopal Church. I’m sorry to hear of Larry’s passing. I always remember his kindness growing up at Grace Episcopal. Thinking of you, Nelly, Pierre, and family.
