Jeanne E. Ries age 98 of Dubuque, IA passed away Thursday Jan. 8, 2026 at Sunset Park Place in Dubuque, IA surrounded by the love of her family. Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Friday Jan. 16th at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday 9:30 AM until the service hour at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Clinton. Casket bearers will be her grandchildren, Tom and John Ries, Jon and Ean Armstrong, Jordan Meyer, Logan Beausoleil, and Andrew, Vincent, Broadrick Schawl. Jeanne was born on Aug. 11, 1927 in Clinton, IA the daughter of Martin and Josephine (Waldorf) Broadrick. Her parents both passed away in 1941, and she was raised by her aunt, Elizabeth White. She married Arthur Ries on May 27, 1955 in Burlington, IA, he died in 1998. She was a homemaker and briefly worked at Burpee Seed and Mercy Hospital, Clinton. She was a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Clinton.

Following a house fire, she moved to Dubuque, IA, when she generously donated her land to Habitat for Humanity. She was a member of the Postal and Moose Auxiliary and volunteered at the American FOLKLORE Theatre for 17 years. She loved to sew and was a very good artist.

Jeanne is survived by her three children, Lisa (Ron) Armstrong of Dubuque, IA, Thomas (Dana) Ries of Iowa City, IA, and Joellyn (Kenneth) Schawl of Avondale, AZ; 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; her sister, Bernadette Roberts of Camanche, IA; and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Arthur, and three brothers, Paul, Tom, and Bill Broadrick. The family would like to thank Sunset Park Place, fifth floor at Unity Point, Finley Hospital, and Hospice of Dubuque for their loving care of Jeanne.
