Wallace H. Kruse, age 90, of Goose Lake, passed away Monday, December 19, 2022, at Fieldstone in Dewitt. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 26 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Preston, Iowa at 11:00am. Visitation will be 9:00 am until service time. Wally was born June 18, 1932, in the family farmhouse, where he lived for almost his entire life. He graduated from Goose Lake Schools and then attended a short course in AG at Ames. Wally was baptized, confirmed, and married Joan F. Kelly on Jan. 16, 1955 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Preston, Iowa. Together, they celebrated 67 years of marriage. Wally was the 5th generation to farm the family farm. He loved the land and taking care of animals his entire life.
Wally was involved and active in his community. He was a past soil commissioner and on the FSA board. He was active on St. John’s church council and also served as the president. He was a lifetime member of the Preston Chapter of the American Legion and also a charter member of the Goose Lake Lion’s Club, holding various offices throughout the years. Wally served Deep Creek Township as a trustee for 43 years. He supported the Preston Community Ambulance and was on the board for many years.

Wally proudly served our country in the Army during the Korean Conflict from Nov, 1952-Oct.1954. In 2014, he attended the Honor Flight out of the Quad Cities, a very memorable trip. In 2007 the Family Farm was noted as a Heritage Farm(150 years) at the Iowa State Farm. A large group of family members were in attendance for this event. For several years, Wally worked as a bus driver for Northeast Community Schools. He enjoyed driving the grandkids to various events and watching them participate.

Wally is survived by his wife, Joan; four daughters, Barbara (Todd) Randolph of Goose Lake, Lynn(Joe) Manning of Bondurant, Kelly(Dale) Gluesing of Goose Lake, and Julie(Scott) Haferbier of Charlotte, eleven grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Wally was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and two sisters.

Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Daniel Randolph, Alec Gluesing, Joshua McGarry, Mitchell Haferbier, Matthew Haferbier, and great nephew- Troy Kruse. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters, Jessica Howard, Emily Vogt, Nicole McGarry, Rebecca Schoenle, Joelle Petersen, and Sara Caven.
Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church of Preston or the Goose Lake Lions Club in support of those with vision needs.
