Sharon Jean Stumbaugh, age 69, of Yorktown VA passed away peacefully on January 13, 2024, after a long illness. Sharon was born in Corona California on August 14, 1954. She was the eldest daughter of Jean and David Stumbaugh Sr. Her formative years were spent in Hawaii, Maryland, Michigan, and Virginia.
Sharon received a B.A. in Education from West Virginia Wesleyan College and an M.A. in Special Education from WVU. She was a beloved Special Education teacher at Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School for over 30 years. Upon retirement, she moved back to Virginia to be closer to her parents. She worked as an Instructional Aide at Lane Elementary School for several years. She was a member of Bush Hill Presbyterian Church. In 2015, she moved to Yorktown VA to live with her sister and family.
Sharon was quiet, reserved, and beautiful. But behind that Mona Lisa smile was the Stumbaugh sense of humor. She enjoyed spending summer breaks at the beach in Ocean City MD, taking family trips to Disneyworld and caring for her beloved cats. She was an avid shopper with a classic sense of style.
Left to cherish her memory are, her father, David Stumbaugh Sr., and her siblings, Sandra (Ed) Johnson, David (Tedra) Stumbaugh, Mike (Mary Ann) Stumbaugh and Jill Stumbaugh Sampson. She also leaves behind 6 nieces and nephews and 6 great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her mother Jean Stumbaugh.
A private funeral service with close family will be held at Pape Funeral Home in Clinton Iowa. The family requests memorial donations be made to the animal shelter of your choice. Condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
