Larry D. Laing age 78

Larry D. Laing, age 78 of Spragueville, Iowa, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 22nd at the Pape Funeral Home in Clinton. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Dierks Cemetery.
Larry was born in Clinton on April 5, 1945, the son of David and Anna (Jensen) Laing. He graduated from Elvira High School. Larry married Joan Vroman on July 3, 1999 in Clinton. He farmed in Clinton County. Truck driving was his passion and Larry hauled cattle, and later grain, for area farmers for many years. He later drove for Campbell Trucking in Preston and Schneider National in Maquoketa. He retired in 2008 but not liking to sit still he continued to help area farmers when needed as well as going back to work for CT Trucking in DeWitt, driving a dump truck. Larry was a life time member of the Loyal Order of Moose. He enjoyed yardwork and his back yard bird feeding.
Larry is survived by his wife Joan; a step-son, Chad (Alicia) Vroman of San Diego, CA; 2 grandchildren, Jessica (Steven) Campo of Ft. Wainwright, AK and Joshua Vroman of Bremerton, WA, and a niece and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; his 2nd wife, Sue and 2 sisters, Nancy Dethmann and infant Susan.
