John W. Forrest died on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. He was involved in an unfortunate bicycle accident while riding north of Fulton, Illinois. A Celebration of Life is planned on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Pape Funeral Home in Clinton, Iowa. Family members will be present to visit from 11 AM – Noon, with words of remembrance starting at 12 PM. Memorial contributions in honor of John may be made to the Clinton Public Library or Clinton High School.

John was born in Clinton, Iowa on July 17, 1955, to the late Dr. Harry J. Forrest, DVM and the late Betty Forrest. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1973 and from the University of Northern Iowa in 1978 with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. John lived and worked in Clinton the majority of his adult life. John was an avid collector of records, comic books and movies. He loved the community of Clinton and was most proud of Eagle Point Park and the Mississippi River views. Many people recognized John from his daily walks and riding his bicycle in the area, and he was a regular visitor to the Lyons Farmers Market. He loved staying in touch with his family, his high school and college friends via “old fashioned” paper letters. He also frequently shared his opinions and thoughts about his beloved community in the Clinton Herald newspaper.

John is survived by his sister, Susan (Mark) Baldwin of Urbandale, Iowa, niece Sarah Baldwin of Kansas City, MO., nephew David (Mei) Baldwin of Tempe, AZ., and several cousins in DeWitt, Iowa and Missouri.
