David J. “Wop” Malli age 80

David J. “Wop” Malli, age 80 of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at The Alverno. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at the Pape Funeral. Visitation will be from 10:00 Am until the service time Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery.
Dave was born in Clinton on January 5, 1943, the son of James E. and Grace (Schmidt) Malli. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School and attended St. Thomas University in Minneapolis and later the University of Iowa. Dave married Betty Lohaus on January 18, 1964 in Monmouth, IL. Betty passed away on April 24, 1970. He later married Joan Freeman on September 30, 1978 in Camanche. Joan passed away on October 15, 2013. Dave had been employed at Chemplex/Lyondell. Dave enjoyed bowling, golfing, socializing at Hook’s, and watching the game show channel, especially Jeopardy and The Beast. He was an avid sports fan following the Iowa Hawkeye’s, Green Bay Packers, and Cubs. He had enjoyed drag racing in his younger years.
Dave is survived by 6 children; Phoebe Schoel of Georgetown, TX, Rick (Sheree) Schoel of Clinton, Susan (Paul) Burn of Clinton, Lori Pladna (Scott Steeg) of Miles, Jeffrey (Charline) Malli of Clinton, and Patricia (Jeffrey) Freeman of Meridan, KS; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parent; his first wife, Betty, his second wife, Joan, and 3 brothers; Ron (Bullit), Dennis (Duds), and James (Pudd).
