Charlie F. Widener, Jr, age 80 of Camanche, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at his home. In following Charlie’s wishes cremation rites will be accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 PM on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at the Pape Funeral Home.
Charlie was born is Straight Creek, Kentucky on January 24, 1944, the son of Charlie F. and Beedie (Sparks) Widener, Sr. He married Helen Stoddard on June 27, 1964 in Savanna. Helen passed away in 2020. Charlie had been employed at Clinton Corn Processing Company, later at Central Steel and Tube and then the City of Sabula as the Sewer Plant Operator. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, and cooking.
Charlie is survived by 3 children, Troy (Rebecca) Widener of Preston, Kent Widener of Clinton, and Tammy (Eugene, Sr.) Kemp of Camanche; 11 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Alice Grant of Clinton; 4 brothers, Garry Widener of Savanna, Edwin Widener of Fulton, David (Jean) Widener of Rock Falls, and Donald Widener of Davenport, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; 2 grandchildren, Eugene Kemp, Jr and Courtney Rogers; 2 sisters, Mildred Scott and Vera Hatfield, and a brother, Jerry.
