Karen D. Hill age 81 of Clinton, passed away Monday, December 9, 2024 at her home. In following Karen’s wishes cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Karen was born in Cherokee, Iowa on September 25, 1943, the daughter of Virgil and Marjorie (Crippen) Swisher. She was raised by Marjorie and her adopted father, Jens Nielsen, following Virgil’s death. Karen graduated from Clinton High School and received her nursing degree from Clinton Community College. Karen married John Hill on April 17, 1971 in Clinton. John passed away on September 9, 2019. She was employed at Mercy Hospital and later at the Kidney Dialysis Center. After retiring Karen volunteered with Mercy Hospital Auxiliary at the Snack Bar and in the Gift Shop. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading, crafting, painting, her flower garden, lunching with her friends, and shopping. Karen and her husband loved traveling, especially to ocean front destinations. They vacationed every spring at Marco Island in Florida.

Karen is survived by 3 daughters; Deb (Keith) Hein of Clinton, Lisa Neisslie of Boynton Beach, FL, and Danielle Graham of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; 4 grandchildren, Lindsey, Matthew, Justin, and Katie; 6 great grandchildren, Rylan, Hayley, Andrew, Elliot, Alexis, and Elena; 2 sisters, Julia Nielsen of Bettendorf and Diane (Mike) Prins of Clinton; 2 brothers, Gary (Cheryl) Nielsen of Coralville, IA, and Larry (Janis) Nielsen of Georgia, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John; grandparents; her parents; a grandson, Brandon; a brother, Robert Nielsen, and a sister, Donna Nielsen. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
