Doris L. Dohse, age 89 of Clinton, passed away Monday, July 8, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 Am on Friday, July 12th at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10:00 Am until the service time Friday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at the Rock Island National Cemetery.
Doris was born in Clinton on January 14, 1935, the daughter of Edward A. and Beeda A. (Swafford) McClain. She married Vernon L. Dohse, Sr. on December 23, 1951 in Clinton. Vernon passed away on April 1, 2004. Doris had been employed at the Ames Department Store in Holyoke, Massachusetts. She and Vernon moved back to Clinton in 1997. Doris enjoyed cooking, baking cookies, fishing, playing bingo, and Bible study at Fieldstone in DeWitt. She loved spending time with her family and ice cream at Smileys in DeWitt.
Doris is survived by 2 sons, Vernon L. Dohse, Jr. and August L. Dohse both of Clinton; 5 grandchildren, Valerie, Timmy, David, Jason, and Jamie, and 2 great grandchildren, Landon and Alice. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon; 3 daughters, Virginia, Anna Marie, and Tammy; 2 sons, David and Robert; 2 sisters, Mary Belle and Eva, and 3 brothers, Vernon, Kenneth, and Orville. I believe in my heart she was a fine Christian woman with all she needed to do. Had a sweet disposition. I loved going to hers and uncle Vernon’s house every week while growing up. One thing really stands out in my mind she shared with me my brother orville and dad she knows that my uncle Vernon dhose gave his heart to the lord before passing away ???????? you will be missed see you later she would always say
I remember when I was young, coming to visit you. The music would be playing and we danced in the kitchen while cookies baked.
I still have the cookie recipe you gave me. Every time I make them I will think of you.
