Mary E. Simpson age 66 of Clinton, IA passed away Friday March 29, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Mary was born on March 23, 1958 in Clinton, IA the daughter of Charles and Florence (Rickerl) Kaup. She married James Simpson Jr. on Oct. 7, 2007 in Clinton, IA. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, antiques, and going to thrift stores. Mary loved her family gatherings, especially spending time with her grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her husband, Jim Simpson of Clinton, IA; her son, Ben (Jane) Fenzel and her daughter, Megan Fenzel both of Clinton, IA; two step children, Josh Simpson and Sheila Coble; 6 grandchildren; five sisters, Susan Ytsen, Julie Vilmont, Nancy Wynkoop, Rita Kaup, and Janis Kaup; four brothers, David, Dan, Pete, and Larry Kaup. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Carl, and her sister, Cecily.
Mary was my best friend in grade school and high school,roller skating at Fox roller rink ,playing Barbies on her front porch. I think I spent more time at her house than I did at my own. She was the best friend and we always had a great time together. My biggest regret is letting our friendship fade away. You will be missed.
