David H. “Dave” Schoel, age 87 of Clinton, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at MercyOne Hospital. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Monday, October 16, 2023 at Prince of Peace Parish. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday at the Pape Funeral Home and from 9:30 AM until the service time Monday at the church. Burial will be at a later date in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
Dave was born in Clinton on May 5, 1936, the son of Peter H. and Julie (Schnieder) Schoel. He graduated from Goose Lake High School. Dave married the love of his life Carol Horst on June 24, 1961 at St. Irenaeus Church in Clinton. He served with the Iowa National Guard for 6 years. Dave was raised on his family farm north of the 2 Mile where he farmed with his wife Carol and four children for 65 years. After retiring and moving to Clinton Dave was a self-employed carpenter. He loved spending time in his work shop, his children received many of his woodworking projects over the years, which they will cherish. Dave was a member of Prince of Peace Parish. He loved spending time outdoors doing yard work, especially cutting grass on his John Deere mower and ending the day having a cold beverage with family and friends. He loved watching all sports especially the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Dave is survived by his wife Carol; 4 children, Kris Davis, Lori Miller, Brian Schoel, and Cindy (Chad) Tinderholt all of Clinton; 9 grandchildren, Josh, Isaac, Solomon, Luke, Whitney, Jeremy, Sidney, Blake, and Bailey; 5 great grandchildren, Braden, Emery, Madison, Alex, and Lincoln, and his special fur buddy, Cricket. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Richard “Dick” and Robert; a sister, Phyllis, and 2 sons-in-law, Skip Miller and Paul Davis. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
