Norma Hammer, 89, of Clinton, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2022. A viewing will take place at 10:00 am followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am at St. John Lutheran Church Clinton, Iowa on Friday, September, 2, 2022. Burial will be held at Oakland Cemetery. Pape Funeral Home assisting the family. Memorials can be made to St. John Lutheran Church or the Mercy Auxiliary. Casket bearers will be Jim Swift, John Swift, Brennan Hammer, Mike Clark, and Rich Reushe.
Norma was born in Jacksonville, Illinois on November 13, 1932 to Floyd Langton and Anna (Ingram) Langton. Norma graduated from Rock Island High School in June, 1950. She married Robert Hammer at the First Presbyterian Church in Clinton, Iowa on December 12, 1953. Norma was employed with the Clinton Community School District as a secretary at Lyons Middle School for 26 years, retiring in January, 1993.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church participating in Ladies Aid and the Prayer Chain. She served as President of the PTA for the Clinton Community School District. She was also President of Mercy One Auxiliary where she served on the board for several years. She also served as a Reach to Recovery Cancer coordinator.
Norma is survived by her sons, Michael (Debbie) Hammer of Midlothian, VA, Jeffery Hammer of Clinton, IA, Terry (Deb) Hammer of Cedar Rapids, IA.; and grandsons, Reid and Thomas Hammer of Katy, TX and Brennan Hammer of Fort Myers, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hammer, parents, and cousin, Jerrie Swift.
Norma was so helpful to me as a young teacher. She was so kind to staff, students, and parents. She made a difference for many.
