Samuel A. Dann, age 51, of Clinton passed away Sunday, May 17, 2026, at MercyOne Clinton Medical Center. Cremation rites have been accorded and private family graveside services will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery at a later date. Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Online condolences may be left on their website.
Sam was born on February 17, 1975, in Clinton, the son of Reynold and Sharon (Hensley) Dann. Sharon later married Leo Vaske who became a dad to him in every way that mattered. Sam had a deep love for music and appreciated all genres. He loved watching music videos on you tube, from rap to rock-n-roll and everything in between. Music brought him peace and comfort throughout his life and often helped soothe his mind during difficult times. Sam always treasured time spent with his family and he had a special love for animals, especially his beloved pug, Lulu.
Throughout his adult life, Sam faced ongoing struggles with mental health and substance abuse. Though those battles were difficult, they never defined the love he had for his family or the kindness within his heart. His family finds comfort in knowing that he is now finally at peace, free from the burdens he carried for so long.
Sam is survived by his stepfather, Leo Vaske of Phoenix, AZ; his brother, Gabe Dann of Clinton; sister, Melany (Derrol) Dann-Aadland of Des Moines; his father, Renny Dann of Clinton; his step-brother, Travis (Samantha) Vaske of Dewitt; his two step-sisters, April (Chaki) Charavarthy of Phoenix and Becky (Ron) Harris of Wever; his two sons, Anthony Dann and Austin Dykstra; two granddaughters, Athena and Astraia; and several nieces and nephews.

Renny and family, it has been many years and we did not know your son, know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. God has taken Sam home to give him peace and rest.
