Harold Norman Nelson Jr., age 88, formerly of Clinton, passed away Friday, February 16, 2024 at West View Care Center in Indianola, IA. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 24th from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Clinton Church of Christ. A funeral service will begin at 1 PM with a luncheon to follow. Harold was born in Clinton on April 23, 1935, the son of Harold Sr. and Helen (Rosenbohm) Nelson. He graduated Clinton High in 1954. Harold served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957-1961 serving in Keflavik, Iceland. He married Reita Sawyer in Morrison, IL on September 23, 1961. Reita passed away in 2021. Harold worked as a draftsman for DuPont/Clysar for over 30 years. He was a member of Clinton Church of Christ, was an officer for the Clinton Reserves, and enjoyed fishing, puzzles, and attending the Clinton Giants/Lumberkings baseball games.
Harold is survived by three daughters, Kathleen (Kent) Shivers of Pleasant Hill, IA, LynnAnne (Mark) Dille of Eden Prairie, MN, and Brenda Nelson of Clinton, IA; five grandchildren, Mercy, Grant, Brett, Alexander, and Brendan; a great granddaughter, Amari; and a brother David (Judy) Nelson of Bryant. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Reita; and grandson Samuel.
