Charles W. “Charlie” Hayes age 81 of Clinton, IA passed away Friday Feb. 9, 2024 at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehab Center, Clinton. Visitation will be held Wednesday Feb. 14th from 10:00 AM until Noon at the Pape Funeral Home; a graveside service will follow at the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Charlie was born on Sept. 6, 1942 in Clinton, IA the son of William and Anna Marie (Staben) Hayes. He graduated from Clinton High School. He was married to Janet Bell on June 29, 1963 in Camanche, IA; they later divorced. He worked at International Paper, Clinton for over 40 years as a Carpenter/Millwright and River City Fencing. Charlie was a member of the Clinton Pool Association, where he was an avid Billiards player. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, working on cars, which he took great pride in his vehicles, and his breakfast club buddies.
Charlie is survived by his two daughters, Laurie Lawrence of Little River, SC and Lisa (Bryan) Nicol of Camanche, IA; five grandchildren, Tyler, Ashley, Zach, Danielle, and Shelby and seven great grandchildren, Carver, Tormund, Emmett, Payton, Mila, Alex, and Stella. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gary.
