Glen (Sam) Houston, 87, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Following Glens wishes, cremation rights have been accorded. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1-3 PM on Friday, June 23rd, 2023 at Pape Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 3 PM. Pape Funeral Home is in charge of cremation and private burial to be held at a later date. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
Glen was born in Canton, IA on 11/9/35, to Thomas and Lola (Bickford) Houston. He was raised by his aunt and uncle, Tresa (Roberts) and Merle Bickford. He graduated from Maquoketa High School. Glen married Carol Kahler on 8/19/56. He worked at Clinton Corn Standard brands and retired from Collis Tool. He also worked part time for Earl Shell. He liked to work on small engines and lawnmowers, his grandkids joked he was the only one who could get the lawnmowers to run. He liked to hunt, especially for pheasant, and fish. He enjoyed camping and spending time with his family. He liked watching Westerns and was an avid Hawkeye fan.
Glen is survived by his wife of 66 years; a son Randy (Linda) of LeClaire; a daughter Karen (Dave) of Clinton; 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren with 1 more expected in August; a sister in-law, Doreen; a special cousin, Susan; along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Julie, his parents, 4 brothers and 1 sister. Memorials can be made to Zion Lutheran Church or Mercy Hospice.

Sorry to read of your dad’s passing, Karen. Looks like he led a good, long life. Nice, too, to have your mother still a part of you and your brother’s combined families. Here’s to better days ahead for all.
