Dolores Mary Snyder, age 98, passed away Saturday, April 29th, 2023 at Fieldstone Nursing Home in DeWitt, IA, formally from Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton, Illinois. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 4th from 10:30 AM until 12:30 PM at the Pape Funeral Home. A service will follow at 12:30 PM. Cremation rites will then be accorded. Dolores was born on September 25th, 1924 in Lyons, (Clinton) Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Lena (Ottens) McMahon. She was united in marriage to Alva Wells Snyder in 1945 in Morrison, IL. Wells passed away January 26, 2011. Dolores worked at the Clinton Lock Company in Lyons for six years. At the age of 21, she met the love of her life, Alva Wells Snyder and married June 2nd, 1945. Dolores and her husband farmed for many years in rural Fulton, IL and Sabula, IA. She was a homemaker, busy raising five children. She was a fantastic cook, loved her vegetable garden, camping, trout fishing, flower gardens, shopping with her daughter, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Those honoring her memory are her five children, sons Edwin (Barb) Snyder, Arnold (Lori) Snyder, daughters Diana (Bruce) Berg of Clinton and Larraine (Renny) Huizenga of Toronto, IA; 13 grandchildren, Douglas (Jennifer Lee) Snyder of FL, Joseph Snyder, Barbara (Roger) Farr of Clinton, Beth (Aaron) Bly of Bluegrass, Kristie Bradley of Conley Springs, NC, Kathy (Phillip) Maynor of Hickory, NC, Sara (Brian) Feldt of Clinton, Aron (Renee) Snyder of Clinton, Brian (Rose) Berg of Cedar Rapids, IA, Cody Schipper of Fulton, IL, Jenna Schipper of Fulton, IL, Melinda Guizer of FL, and Jessica Banker of Sabula, IA; 22 great grandchildren; and 13 great great grandchildren that will miss her greatly.
Dolores is preceded in death by her parents; her late husband Alva; a son Dennis Snyder; a great grandson Matthew Bradley; brothers James and Robert McMahon; and sisters Ruth Luckritz and June Orsi.
