Dennis E. May, age 79 of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at the Alverno. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday, February 26th at the Pape Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, February 27th at Smith Cemetery, Almont, Iowa. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday, March 5th at the AMVETS in Clinton.
Dennis was born in Clinton on October 13, 1943, the son of Dennis E. and Gertrude (Greaves) May, Sr. He attended Elvira Schools. He served in the 9th Infantry, US Army during the Vietnam War. Dennis married Linda Cheney on February 22, 1970 in Elvira. He was employed at Carlon for 38 years. Dennis was a member of the AMVETS and the Miles American Legion. He enjoyed camping and bus trips with his wife, Linda.
Dennis is survived by his wife Linda; 2 sons, Darren (Tammela) May of Clinton and Jason (fiancée, Patricia Armstrong) May of Camanche; 2 grandchildren. Dustin and Lilly; his siblings, David (Shelba) Van Horn of Charlotte, Kathy (John) Kustes of Hauntown, Myrna (Ned) Stoltenburg of Maquoketa, and Brenda (Sy) Andresen of Clinton and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ron May; a sister, Gloria Hamilton, and an infant sister, Connie. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.

Sorry for your loss Darren, I remember your dad for 23 years I was at Carlon, I won’t be able to make the funeral due to I will be out of state. You have my condolences.

Saying goodbye is so very hard. Dennis was the kind of brother everybody wants. Kind and generous. He would do anything to try and help you. Always. He could fix things no one else could. He worked so hard his whole life. He had his full time job and would come home from it and go work till dark roofing. He took pride in his home and everything he owned. When he came home from Vietnam
he told me he sure would like to meet a nice decent girl . I told him I had the perfect one for him. Would you believe fifty three years ago today he married that girl and she was his life partner. Dennis rest in peace. You are so loved and will be missed beyond words.
