David was born on August 10, 1934 in Clinton, and grew up north of the big tree. He went to Lyons Jr/Sr High School and joined the US Air Force in 1952. David served in the Korean War as a mechanic and spent the majority of his time in the service stationed in Japan and Korea. He was proud to have taken the Honor Flight to Washington, DC. David married Billie Laverne Rascsak on February 5th, 1954, and soon had six children, Michael (Mary) Fulton, IL; Barry, LeClaire, IA; David (JoDee) Clinton, IA; Jeffery (Cathy) Discovery Bay, CA; Steven (Shannon) Maricopa, AZ; and Brenda (Thomas) Cooper Elvira, IA. David and Billie are also grandparents to 16 and great-grandparents to 27.

Upon leaving the Air Force in 1956, David worked in the boiler room at Clinton Corn for 23 years before moving on to the International Harvester Farmall plant. David and Billie also ran the Elvira Country Inn for 13 years before David rounded out his retirement by driving the bus for the City of Clinton. In recent years, he was an avid walker and could be seen around his Clinton neighborhood walking his dog.

David instilled a love of sports in his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Sporting events were a unifying force in David’s family and David and his family spent a lot of quality time watching his beloved Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Bears, and Chicago Cubs. David also loved watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren play youth sports. David was often the loudest spectator but his family secretly loved hearing his cheers from the crowd.

David was a loving husband, a supportive father, a doting grandfather and great grandfather, as well as a generous and loyal brother, uncle, and friend and he will be genuinely missed by all who knew him and loved him.
