David C. Spooner, age 76 of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Mercy One. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 PM Friday, February 19th at the Pape Funeral Home. A Blue Lodge Masonic service will be held at 3:00 PM with funeral services to follow with the Rev. James Machen, Sr. officiating. Following the service cremation rites will be accorded.
David was born in Clinton on February 26, 1944, the son of Harry and Helen (Buckley) Spooner. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1962. He attended the Davenport Barber College. David married Michele “Mickey” Ashton on August 14, 1966 in Clinton. David owned The Refuge on Main Ave. for many years. He attended the Church of the Open Door. He had been a very active member of Lyons Blue Lodge #93 for over 50 years, starting the Cloth a Child Program, and serving as the Lodge’s District Lecturer. David enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great granddaughter, was an avid hunter, gardener, and fisherman, and painted wildlife.
David is survived by his wife, Michele; 3 children, Melissa Spooner of Boise, ID, Ryan (Ashley) Spooner of Urbandale and Lee (Samantha) Spooner of Clinton; 11 grandchildren, Tristian, Makenna, Hunter, Abby, Addison, Hazel, Katie, Jaxon, RyLee, Stassi and Jock; a great granddaughter, Lorelai; a sister, Marcia Lass of Clinton and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Arthur, Dwayne, and Ross and 3 sisters, Jackie, Kay and Gayla. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital or the Shriners Hospital for Children. Oh Mickey, I am so sorry for your loss. I just read about his death tonight, I had no idea. Please accept my heart felt sympathy. Lets for out sometime….I miss the good old days!!!

Sorry to hear about David’s passing. He fought a good fight for several years. My Dad used to enjoy their visits when he’d come in for his haircuts. Our sympathy to the Spooner Family.
