She attended St. Mary’s High School, Clinton, Iowa, Mount St. Clare College, Clinton, Iowa and later in life, Coe College, Cedar Rapids, IA. She married August Charles Mattan, Jr., in the fall of 1961. As a single parent, Judy needed a reliable job with benefits to support her family. In 1976, she passed the civil service exam and joined the Internal Revenue Service as an auditor where she worked full time. Judy enjoyed her occupation and was successfully employed by the Internal Revenue Service for over 30 years.

She is survived by her children, her grandchildren: Elyse Renee Mattan McElligott, Nolan August Mattan McElligott, Kayden Isiah Easley Mattan, her siblings: David J. Brown (Janet), Karen J. Limke (Mike), Tim F. Brown (Nancy), many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, as well as her lifelong friend Ellen (Tritz) Tarnawa, her husband Peter and their daughter Maggie. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Melissa Anne Brown.

Her children thank Highland Ridge Assisted Living and Care Center for their attentive and gracious care during her time there, and Denise with Essence of Life Hospice for making her last days comfortable. In lieu of flowers, a Memorial Fund in Judy’s name is available for donations to the Highland Ridge Community at Presbyterian Homes Foundation, 2845 Hamline Avenue North, Roseville, MN, 55113 or www.preshomes.org/foundation.
