Nicholas R. “Nick” Figg age 32 of Clinton, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2025 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will begin at 12:00 on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at the Clysar Pavilion in Camanche, IA, with a luncheon taking place following the memorial.
Nick was born in Iowa City on April 23, 1992, the son of Ronald and Cheri (Richardson) Figg. He was a proud graduate from Camanche High School. Everyone Nick met quickly became a friend. Nick’s huge heart, mischievous laugh and jokester personality drew everyone to love Nick. Those that were fortunate enough to know Nick, learned how fierce Nick loved and cared for his friends and especially family. Nick was a proud son, brother and the best uncle to 10 nephews and 3 nieces.
Nick attended day-hab at the Skyline Center, which he considered to be work. He enjoyed bowling, eating out (especially if it was going out for Chinese food or involved eating corn). He loved competing in the Special Olympics, talking about his birthday and camp all year round. Nick loved attending Camp Courageous in Monticello, IA every summer. Camp taught Nick there were no limits in what he could do. Over the years, Nick enjoyed caring for the animals, horseback riding, swimming, ziplining, climbing a tree, canoeing and much more. One of Nick’s favorite yearly activities at camp was to join his fellow campers and staff at the campsite to share stories and laughs and to cook hot dogs and smores over a fire. Nick loved all types of music, especially Usher. Nick loved to sing and dance to all types of music with his friends and family. Everyone he met became a friend. He especially loved visiting the ice cream shop to spend time with friends and sneak extra ice cream when dad wasn’t watching.
Nick is survived by his father Ron of Clinton; a sister, Misti (Sean Varner) Wilkening of Camanche; 4 brothers, Ronald (Amber) Figg, Jr. of South Dakota, Terry (Kristen) Figg of Clinton, Stephen Figg (Jessica Jorgensen) of Clinton, Matt Figg of Illinois; three nieces and ten nephews; special friends, Hadley, Kara, Claire, and Carson, Skyline friends and many teachers and staff over the years. He was preceded in death by his mother, Cheri, his grandparents, an uncle and a cousin.
A special thank you to the phenomenal team of doctors, nurses, respiratory team and staff at The University of Iowa Surgical Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (SNICU). Dr. Godfrey and her team went above and beyond and we can’t thank everyone enough for everything they did. Nick’s final act of kindness was to give the gift of life through organ donation. Memorials may be made to the family or Camp Courageous in Nick’s name. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
