John H. Assenmacher, 91 of Goose Lake, passed away Friday, September 6, 2024 at Maquoketa Care Center. Graveside services were held at Clinton Lawn Cemetery on September 7, 2024. The Pape Funeral Home assisted the family. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
John was born in Clinton County on July 27, 1933, the son of Mathias and Marie (Arkenberg) Assenmacher. He joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. John married Janella Bies on October 6, 1956 in Bellevue, IA. Together they had “two and a half dozen” kids. John enjoyed farming his entire life and also woodworking.
John is survived by his wife Janella; children Jim (Cindy) Assenmacher of Clinton, Joe (Becky) Assenmacher of Thomson, IL, Dale (Mary) Assenmacher of Preston, Dennis (Deb) Assenmacher of DeWitt, Kenny (Marlene) Assenmacher of Charlotte, Gary (Sally) Assenmacher of Bryant, Jane (Craig) Jensen of Charlotte, and Karen (Larry) Driscoll of Preston; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Robert Assenmacher and Lucille Heiar.
Jane and Craig, Loran and I are very sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. I Will miss John driving by our home and playing his music from his truck and waving! Always made me Smile and I enjoyed visiting with him, also. He seemed so Happy, as he traveled frequently to your home! May he rest in peace.
