Mike was born in Clinton on October 3, 1951, to Arnold and Naomi (Hansen) Petersen. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1970 and participated in numerous sports. His state championship track team was inducted into the 2019 Clinton High School Hall of Fame. He continued his athletic career at Clinton Community College where he played baseball and basketball and finished his degree at the University of Iowa.
Mike’s competitive spirit and love for sports continued through his days as an outfielder for the Happy Joe’s men’s slow pitch softball team. Softball connected him with many of his lifelong friends. Boars and participated in the Clinton community as a Treasurer of Clinton Junior Baseball.
Mike’s greatest passion was his family. Some of his fondest memories include coaching his kids activities, most notably the Happy Joe’s Jammers youth basketball team. His other lifelong passion was to follow and attend all of his kids’ activities. In his retirement, Mike spent a majority of his time playing golf and spending time with family and friends. Mike will be remembered as a genuine, hardworking man who always took pride in everything he did. He led by example and made a lasting impact on those that knew him. His one-of-a-kind grin and sense of humor will be greatly missed.

I just learned of Mike’s passing. Mike was a great person and friend. While we only saw each other occasionally after I moved away from Clinton, when we did meet up, it was like we never missed a beat. My thoughts and prayers are with Karen, Nicki, Bryan, and all the family. Mike will be missed by s many others as a brother, competitor, contributor and friend. Rest In Peace my Friend.
I was sorry to hear of Mike’s passing. My sincere condolences to his family. I had the privilege of knowing Mike in High School. (many hours playing “Risk” at Mike’s house). Mike was always good to me and I’ll always be grateful for his kindness.
Deepest sympathy to all of Mike’s family and friends. He was a great pillar to the community. I remember many days when we’d order breakfast pizza at work and he’d deliver them to us himself always with a smile. Rest In Peace, Mike.
