George E. Kunau, Jr. age 78 of Clinton, passed away Thursday, June 10, 2021 at his home. In following George’s wishes cremation rites have been accorded. Private services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Hood, Troy Hopkins, Lucas Raab, Bennett Kunau, Marv Thompson, David Franzen and Dave Grove. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family.
George was born in Teeds Grove, Iowa on July 14, 1942, the son of George E. and Marian (Hinrichsen) Kunau, Sr. He graduated from Clinton High School. George married Betty Rockwell on December 31, 1963 at Sacred Heart Church in Clinton. He was the parts manager at McEleney Motors for many years. He was a member of the Lions Club and the 4/11 Volunteer Fire Department. George was crazy for his grandchildren and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.
George is survived by his wife Betty; 2 sons, Brian (Dee Ann) Kunau of Lexington, KY and Scott Kunau of Fulton; 4 grandchildren, Nicole Middlecamp, Lucas Raab, Zoe Kunau and Bennett Kunau; 2 great grandchildren, Maddy and Willem Middlecamp, a brother, Dave (Sharon) Kunau of Fulton and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Shirley Stuedemann. Memorials in George’s name can be made to the Lion Club and sent to 1130 17th St., Fulton, IL 61252. I am so sorry to hear of Sonny’s passing. He was always so good to me and my mother. Betty, Brian and Scott, the years have allowed us to lose touch. I hope there will be a day when we can connect again. Stay safe and healthy.
