William I. “Bill” Hitchcock age 85 of Camanche, IA passed away Sunday Dec. 28, 2025 at The Alverno Health Care Facility, Clinton. Funeral service will be held Saturday Jan. 3rd at 10:30 AM at the Pape Funeral Home, Clinton. Visitation will be held Saturday from 9:30 AM until the service hour at the funeral home. Bill was born on Aug. 19, 1940, in Savanna, IL the son of Irven and Dorothy (Taplin) Hitchcock. Bill grew up on the family farm in Sabula, IA and graduated from Sabula High School in 1959. He married Patricia Holle on May 20, 1961, and together they had three daughters: Brenda, Cheryl, and Christine. They later divorced.
In 1968 Bill began his career with Chemplex in Clinton. He transferred to the Equistar plant in Morris, Illinois in 1988 retiring in 2005. Bill was an avid outdoorsman and an accomplished archer and bowhunter. He was an NFAA competitor and a past president of the Clinton Archery Association. He also enjoyed walleye fishing, taking many fishing trips to Wisconsin and Canada. Bill enjoyed traveling and taking his daughters to the Iowa State Fair, camping, tractor pulls, and boat shows. He traveled to the east coast with his sisters for many years and spent countless hours collecting shells along the beach. Bill was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed going to NASCAR races with his daughter Cheryl and her family.
Bill is survived by his two daughters, Cheryl (Tim) Dau of Newburgh, IN and Christine (Mike) Robertson of Camanche, IA; 7 grandchildren, Bill, Casey (Ernie), Thomas (Karie), Carissa, Carin, Jamie, and Paige; 2 step grandchildren, Andrea and Martin; 3 great grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren; his brother, James Hitchcock and three sisters; Mary Mistretta, Geraldine Johnson, and Carol (David) Young; and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Brenda, a step grandson, a sister-in-law, and a brother-in-law.
