Taylor R. Spooner-Spitzer 28, loving son of Darcy Spooner and doting brother of Jamie Spitzer-Heister passed away Friday, December 31, 2021 at his home. A private family service will be held Wednesday January 5th at Pape Funeral Home. Taylor will be laid to rest at Oakland Cemetery next to his maternal grandfather. Pallbearers will be Shawn and Shannon Spooner, Mike, Sean and Michael Mullholland, Neal and Kyle Stoller and Zach Heister.
Taylor was born on February 19th, 1993 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, IA. He was home schooled during high school and received his high school diploma. Taylor attended Clinton Community College and Ashford University. He was an honor student in the bio-chemistry program and received his Pharmacy Technician Certification. Taylor was a past employee of Walgreens Pharmacy.
Taylor was a “real life Doogie Howser”. He may have not had the M.D. following his name but he had the intelligence of a genius. Taylor’s health complications were his greatest barrier, yet he continued to educate himself in medicine and politics. Taylor was a volunteer with the American Red Cross and received the Sylvia Meeker Health and Safety Services Award. Taylor enjoyed music, exercise and spending time with family and friends. He was an avid reader and enjoyed medical research and technology. His lifetime goal was to become a pediatric cardiologist. He took pride in being his grandmother’s primary care provider.
Taylor will be greatly missed by his family, friends and his team of medical providers at UIHC. Taylor is survived by his mother, Darcy Spooner of Clinton, IA; his adoptive father John Spitzer of Clinton, IA, his sister, Jamie (Zach) Heister of Clinton, IA; his maternal grandma, (gram) Lynda Spooner of Clinton, IA; his special friend Alexis Boeh-Petersen of Low Moor, IA; his aunts & uncle’s, David Stoller of Clinton, IA, Shawn (Donna) Spooner of Robins, IA, Dawn (Mike) Mulholland of Clinton, IA and Shannon (Dana) Spooner of Clinton, IA and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Ross Spooner, his aunt Kelly Stoller and his cousin, Matthew Mulholland. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com. I am so sad to see this, Taylor was an awesome student I enjoyed at Jefferson Elementary as I worked in the Library he would come and choose so many books..always with a smile or books he wondered if I could get..he was a great reader. My thoughts & prayers to all of you…Mrs. Sager
