Shirley Mae Spitzer age 85 of Clinton, IA passed away Monday Nov. 27, 2023 at her home. According to her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Shirley was born on Sept. 8, 1938 in Hankinson, ND, the daughter of Roy and Lila (Buckhouse) Baier. She graduated from New Rockford High School in North Dakota.
She married Bert Spitzer on June 24, 1955 in Sikeston, ND. Shirley was a homemaker and had worked at the Sears Store, Clinton for many years. Shirley and Bert wintered in Florida for over 17 years. She enjoyed crocheting and crafts, camping, and playing pool.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Bert Spitzer of Clinton, IA; three children, Diane (Scott) Shirley of Clinton, IA, Christene (Paul) Fahrenkrug of McCausland, IA, and John (Debbie) Spitzer of Clinton, IA; 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren;
her sister, Mary Tillapaw and brother, Bob Baier both of Denver, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandson, Taylor, and two brothers.
