Shirley was born March 28, 1931 at her parent’s home near Andover, IA, the daughter of Ernest and Vernetta (Hagge) Petersen. She was a graduate of Miles High School, class of 1949. She was united in marriage to Lester Greve at Zion Lutheran Church in Clinton on January 20, 1952. Together Shirley and Lester joyfully shared over 72 years of marriage. Prior to her marriage, Shirley worked briefly for Curtis Company, Clinton, as a clerical assistant. Throughout their marriage Shirley helped Lester operate and manage their farm south of Sabula.
Shirley loved spending time with her family and friends and spent her free time enjoying her many hobbies such as card club, bowling league (in her younger years), cross stitch sewing, and working on her puzzles, as well as tending her flowers and hummingbird feeders. She loved to bake goodies for her family and friends’ enjoyment and was especially renowned for her exceptionally good banana bread and chocolate chip cookies. Above all, she dearly loved her family and will be greatly missed by her loved ones.
Shirley is survived by her husband Lester; her children Darla (Clark) Joslin of Cambridge, MN, Daniel (Marlita) Greve of Davenport, IA, and Denise (Bryan) Hermann of Clinton; eight grandchildren; 15 (and counting) great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Arlo and Orvin Petersen; and her infant great grandson Victor Joslin. Memorials can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Mayo Clinic.
Darla, Dan and Denise, I was so to hear of your mother’s passing. You are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
