Sharon K. (Timmons) Puls – 81

Sharon Kay Timmons Puls, of Buford, Georgia, died December 17, 2023 age 81. Sharon fought cancer nearly 14 years with great courage and faith. She died peacefully of complications of Multiple Myeloma, with her son, Tim at her side.
She was born January 6, 1942, the first of two daughters born to Glenn and Margaret (Briggs) Timmons. She grew up in Clinton, Iowa and graduated in the Clinton High School Class of 1960. She met the love of her life, Ross Puls when he worked in her father’s grocery store. She thought he was handsome as Elvis. They were married on July 4, 1961. During their 62 years together they lived in Longmont, Colorado, Clinton Iowa and Buford, Georgia. They loved traveling in their RV, boating on the Mississippi and Lake Lanier, and spoiling their Scotties (especially Decker, Duffy and Duncan).
Sharon was a mother, Girl Scout leader and baker of the famous “Puls Cookies.” She is fondly remembered for hosting scary Halloween haunted houses and bonfires with smores, driving her big green van for school field trips, and sewing costumes for school plays. She worked for Iowa Power and Light, Burpee Seed Company, Neilson’s Clearing House and the school district of Buford, Georgia, from which she retired in 2005. She was a proud volunteer with the Special Olympics in Atlanta and was an active member of St. Irenaeus Catholic Church in Clinton, Iowa and later Prince of Peach Church in Georgia.
Sharon was blessed with truly wonderful friends. Lifelong friends from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Sandy Decker Lewis and Carol Hall Moore, as well as school friends Kay Frahm and Joyce Hildreth, to name just a few. And for over 20 years in Georgia, she and friend Brenda Wallington laughed their way through monthly lunches out with “The Curves Girls” and countless games of Mah Jongg.
The family is deeply grateful to the many friends like Brenda, Carol, the Budzinskis and the Mears, who gave their time and hearts to supporting her through her illness. We are forever indebted to the team at the Winship Cancer Center, headed by Dr. Jonathan Kaufman, and supported by wonderful people like Delores and Suzanne. And we thank her incredible Bridgeway hospice team, Lori and Ashley. These dear people gave her hope, and she loved them all.
Of great meaning in Sharon’s life was her participation in three Multiple Myeloma three clinical trials at Emory University’s Winship Cancer. She hoped her participation would help cure others, including her son-in-law, who suffers from the disease. When in remission she also served as a patient advocate through MD Anderson.
Sharon is survived by her daughters Laura Brozo and Rhonda McCollough, their husbands Stanley Brozo and Parker McCollough, her sons David Puls and Tim Puls and his wife Judy Hammett; by her grandchildren Christopher Brozo, Renee Brozo Clemens, Cory McCollough, James McCollough, Murphy McCollough, Chandler McCollough and Elvin Chateauvert, and eleven great grandchildren. She was also blessed with nine nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Margo Timmons Gifford and husband Ross.
Her memorial service will be held at Prince of Peace Church in Clinton on April 17, 2024, at 11am. A reception in her honor for all friends and family will be in the church hall following the graveside service.
