Scott L. Birdsley, age 36 of Marion, Iowa, formerly of Clinton, passed away Friday, February 4, 2022 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at the Pape Funeral Home in Clinton. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com
Scott was born in Clinton on July 3, 1985, the son of Diane (Charlson) and Steven Birdsley. Scott graduated from Clinton High School in 2003 and from Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids in 2008. He was employed as a senior Desktop Analyst with TransAmerica in Cedar Rapids.
Scott met the love of his life, Elizabeth (Liz) Lingle in 2004 and they were married on September 5, 2009 in Clinton. Together they have two children, Natalie (10) and Gavin (7) who were his absolute pride and joy.
There is a tremendous void in the place of Scott’s passing. He was a loving husband, a patient and kind father, a reliable friend, and always put his family before anything else. There wasn’t a dad chore, or dad joke, that Scott sat out on. He was someone you knew you could always call and he would always answer. Scott gave to family and friends without end and put everyone’s needs before his own.
Those left to miss and love Scott are Liz, Natalie, and Gavin who reside in Marion; his parents, Steven and Diane of Clinton; sister, Jessica (Patrick) Getz of Clinton; brother, Eric Birdsley of Chicago; sister-in-law, Alice (Tom) Drummond of Port Byron; brother-in-law, Joshua (Jessica) Lingle of Clinton; and nieces and nephews Abram, Willa, Gabriel, Jocelyn, Franklin, Lauren, Sydney, and Wyatt, and many close friends and loved ones. Memorials may be made to the family.
My condolences on the loss of such a great person, father, and husband. I’m blessed to have been able to work and get to know with Scott over the years. He will be greatly missed.
My condolences to his family and friends. Scott was a great guy to work with.
Steve, So very sorry to read of the passing of your son, Scott. Prayers to you and your family.
Scott was the youngest of my Iowa cousins and the one whom I got to know latest in my adult life, when we both had become married men with children. I am very grateful that we had the opportunity to get to meet each other’s families during his visit to my town in Kentucky a few years ago. I am keeping his wife and children, as well as my other Iowa cousins and their parents, in my best thoughts as they mourn this terrible and untimely loss.
My deepest condolences to you, Steve and Diane, on the horrific loss of a dear son. I remember him as a young boy who made me smile and giggle. I can’t imagine your grief. Sounds like he made quite an impact on everyone he met in his life. May your most fond memories comfort you in time. Again, my deepest sympathy. Thinking of and praying for you. ??
So sorry to hear of Scott’s passing. He was always pleasant to work with and had a smile on his face. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Scott and I worked closely together since he started at Transamerica/Aegon. We both worked in the help desk together, then we both worked on level 2 teams together and sat next to each other for many years. He was always helpful and wanted to go the extra mile on anything he worked on to make sure it was done right.
We are both pretty big jokers and got along great. Even as we moved through the company into different roles, we always had something we were working on together. There are very few weeks in the past 12 1/2 years that we didn’t have some type of collaboration. Be it through asking over the wall, rolling a chair over, conference room, IM, email, meeting or video call. Anytime Scott was on the case, I knew he would follow through.
Scott leaves behind a hole that cannot be filled. He touched so many in his time here. My heart breaks for his family.
His smile and laugh will be missed.
I am so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to all of you and I pray you find some comfort as you cherish every memory.
Scott was always friendly and helpful and will be missed. Keeping Scott’s family in my thoughts and prayers.
I am so sorry for your loss. I know Scott will be missed by so many at Aegon. Your family is in my prayers.
