In loving memory of Rick “Roggie” Roggendorf. Rick, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at the UIHC. Rick was born in Clinton on September 15, 1956, the son of Richard E & Mary Ellen Roggendorf. Rick was married to Suzan McCord, on October 21, 1975, in Glendale, AZ, where he also received his automotive training from the Arizona Automotive Institute.
Rick had the distinction of being “A Mover and a Shaker” in the city of Clinton, IA, and was known around town as someone who would deliver pizzas by night and fix cars by day. Rick worked hard and was employed at McEleney Motors for 40 years and Pizza Hut Delivery for 32. He was a member of Prince of Peace. Rick also volunteered his time with the Animal Birth Control charity and for Ragbrai.
Rick was a man of many passions, but none greater than his love for his family and fishing & hunting with them. He found solace in the great outdoors, where he felt most alive and connected with nature. His eyes would light up at the prospect of spending quality time with family on the water or in the woods, sharing his enthusiasm and knowledge with those he held dear.
Family meant everything to Rick, especially his granddaughters, Katie and Kylie, who brought endless joy and laughter into his life. He cherished every moment spent with them, creating memories that will be treasured forever. His love for his wife Sue was unwavering and they shared a bond built on love and friendship. Their partnership was a testament to the enduring power of love and dedication.
Though he may no longer be with us in body, Rick’s spirit will continue to shine brightly through the memories we hold dear. His love, laughter, and kindness will forever be etched in our hearts, guiding us through life’s journey. He was always there to lend a helping hand, offering guidance and support wherever people needed it most. His kindness and generosity knew no bounds, and his legacy of compassion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Rick is survived by his wife, Sue; 2 daughters, Jen (Craig), and Kristin (Nic), 2 grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Kylie; 2 brothers, Michael (Patti) and David, 2 sisters, Lynn (Bill), and Mary Ann; aunts, nieces, and nephews; his cat Charlie and best friend George. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mallery, his parents, a sister, Debbie, and his dog Max.
In following Rick’s wishes cremation rites will be accorded. A Celebration of Life will take place on May 18th from 12-3 at St Paul Lutheran Church 715 S 3rd St, Clinton, IA. my dearest Rick,
I just called you on your telephone. I really really wanted you to pick up your phone. I left you a voice mail. I hope it reaches you up in heaven. I dream about you in my dreams. Maybe it is you coming to watch over me and the girls and Charlie boy. you have been gone for 20 days now. it seems like just yesterday in my mind. I know the good Lord up above is watching over you. Say hello to my dad, bum bum, Mallory, your mom and dad and grandma Kunde. People say it is beautiful place to be. “heaven”. Until we meet again. how is the fishing up there? Did you go pheasant hunting yet? if you did, Jenny will be upset that you didn’t save her a few pieces.
We all miss you so much. You were my rock. it doesn’t seem the same down here without you. I will always always love you until I get to see you again. love, Sue.
P.S. May 21 is fast approaching. Sweetest day!! The day of our first date, at the Jewel food store company picnic. Thus is the day I fell for you, hook, line, and sinker. I love you Rick. Sue
Such a wonderful man. I remember years ago, Kristin told me there is no better man on the face of the earth, than her dad, Rick Roggendorf. I tend to agree with her.
Rick,
You left us 11days ago. Our beautiful daughters Kristin and Jennifer have broken hearts. KT is having a real hard time. So is Kylie.
She said to her mom and dad, but but grandpa was going to take me fishing.
Also to get her ice cream cones. How do you explain to a precious 7 year old that grandpa is up in heaven. How do you explain to KT who understands, but her heart is breaking. How do we explain to ourselves why you had to leave so suddenly. Jenny and Kristin are having a very hard time.
Kristin told me the other day, she looks for your texts or phone calls and there is none. How do I look at that door over there knowing you will never walk through it again. What will we do without you, my sweetheart?
I love you forever!
Sue

There you are my sweet husband. From our first Junior Achievement meeting, you went home and told your mom, “I met a beautiful girl tonight. She doesn’t know it yet, and has no inkling as to who I am. But mom, I am going to marry this girl one day. We certainly did. Before I met you, I thought you were a need in short jeans and cow boy boots on. Boy did you prove me wrong. You will always be the love of my life Rick Roggendorf.
Rick/Sue Sue/Rick we will always be together, forever.
You gave me your nickname of “babes”!
