Richard A. Meyer age 84 of Clinton, Iowa passed away Friday Oct. 13, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. Cremation rites will be accorded and a private family graveside service will be held at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. The Pape Funeral Home assisted the family. Richard was born on Jan. 30, 1939 in Clinton, IA, the son of Willard and Thelma (Stewart) Meyer. He attended Bellevue and Clinton Schools. He served in the US Army from 1956-1959. Richard married Sharon DeWitt on May 23, 1959 in Maquoketa, IA. He worked as an Engineer for Chicago Northwestern Railroad for over 39 years. He loved his Dachshund dog – Gretchen. Richard enjoyed duck hunting, traveling, playing poker with his friends, and going to the casino.
Richard is survived by his significant other, Sharon DeWitt of Clinton, IA; a son, Rich Meyer of Clinton, IA; two step-children, Michelle Strunk of Clinton, IA and Michael (Nicole) Gibart of La Crosse, WI; 8 grandchildren, Jake, Kristy, Katie, Kimberly, Kurtis, Michael, Jordan, and Connor; 3 great grandchildren, Lynnea, Sophia, and Alana; two brothers, David (Cindy) Putman and Larry (Ruth) Putman both of Bellevue, IA; two sisters, Cheryl (Glenn) Budde and Connie (Peter) Andersen both of Bellevue, IA; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Laurie, and two brothers, Willard and Steven, a sister, Dixie, and his grandmother, Viola who was very special to him. The family would like to thank Mercy Hospice and neighbors, Duane and Denise Plum for their loving care.
I will miss you dicky and you were amazing uncle to me and my brother Bentley and I will always remember you forever and always and you made me laugh every single time and I love you so much!
Rest In Peace Uncle Dick, hope you are having one great reunion with all your friends and family. You are all together in eternity and you don’t have to endure any more suffering. May you now rest easy. This is t goodbye, but see you later! ❤️
