Payton R. Chapman age 22 of Davenport, IA, formerly of Clinton, passed away Wednesday Jan. 18, 2023 at Genesis East Hospital in Davenport, IA. Funeral services will be held at 7 PM Thursday, January 26th at the Pape Funeral Home, Clinton. Visitation will be held 4 PM until the service hour on Thursday at the Pape Funeral Home, Clinton. Honorary pallbearers will be Maddux Chapman, Riley Chapman, Walker Chapman, Benton Chapman, Jessen Chapman, Connor Bodman, Myles Voss, Jeffery Chapman, Ryan John Chapman, and Tristen Daniels. Following the service, cremation rites will be accorded and burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 28th in Parkview, IA. A luncheon and celebration will follow the burial on Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church, Clinton. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
Payton was born on Aug. 30, 2000 in Clinton, IA, the son of Ryan and Heather (Horst) Chapman. He attended Clinton High School. He worked with Ketelsen Concrete Services in Sabula, IA. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Clinton. He enjoyed fishing, shooting guns, wrestling, and playing baseball. Payton was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan.
Payton is survived by his parents, Heather Chapman of Davenport, IA and Ryan (Jennifer) Chapman of Davenport, IA; a brother, Maddux Chapman of Davenport, IA; two sisters, Mercedes (Landyn) Voss of Sabula, IA and Piper Chapman of Davenport, IA; his nephew, Myles Voss; his grandparents, Stuart (Gretchen) Horst of Clinton, IA; his step-grandparents, Margaret Chapman of Clinton, IA, Alan (Jackie) Sparks of Charlotte, IA, and Royce Johnson of Sabula, IA; and several aunts & uncles. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Michael Chapman and Patricia Manning; and his step-grandfather, JR Johnson.

I am very sorry for your loss. I had Payton in class when he was in 6th grade (we shared a birthday). I’ll always remember his bright blonde hair and his great big smile.
