It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother (Meme), Muriel M. Deters, who peacefully departed this world on January 4, 2025 at the age of 97. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com
Mert was a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who devoted her life to her family and the simple joys of nature. Born on May 25, 1927 in Lyons, IA she grew up with a love for life’s simplest pleasures, a love she shared with everyone around her.
Known for her green thumb and her nurturing spirit, she spent countless joyful hours in her garden, cultivating hearty vegetables and vibrant flowers that brought bounty and beauty to those she loved. Her garden was more than a place to grow; it was where she found peace and purpose. More than anything, Mert was the heart of her family. She made every gathering special with her warm smile, home-cooked meals, and the stories she loved to share. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy.
She is survived by her children, Danny and the late Suzanne Deters of Evansville, IN, Cindy and John Anderson of Monument, CO, Barb and Thomas Rapp of Wylie, TX, Louie, and Lea Deters of Fulton, IL , and James and Debra Deters of Clinton, IA; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack, her two brothers, Bill and Pat; sister Betty along with many nieces and nephews.
While she will be dearly missed, her legacy of love, kindness, and her passion for gardening will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Rest in peace, Meme. May your garden always bloom in Heaven.
