Merle A. Lawrence, Sr. age 59 of Clinton, passed away, Wednesday, August, 25, 2021 at his home following a 2 year battle with cancer. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 PM Sunday, August 29th at the Pape Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 5:00 PM. Following the service cremation rites will be accorded.
Merle was born in Clinton on November 13, 1961, the son of Merle E. and Carolyn (McNeal) Lawrence. He attended Clinton Schools. Merle married Kay Peters on June 26, 1982 in Clinton. He was a laborer with Local 309, Rock Island, IL. Merle played pool in the Clinton Billiards League and was a member of the bronze elbow club. He loved spending time with his grandkids and his dog CJ. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, barbequing, being outside on trail rides and on the river. In his 2 year battle with lung cancer he never complained.
Merle is survived by his wife Kay; a son, Merle (Jessica) Lawrence of Clinton; 4 grandchildren, Hunter, Brycen and Kyler Lawrence and Madison Meggenberg; a brother, John (Ron Coder) Lawrence of Clinton; a sister, Cheryl (Mike) Harmon of Moline, IL; brother-in-law, Robert (Marcy) Reed of Clinton; a niece, Paige (Ben) Wilbur; 2 nephews, Evan Harmon and Zachary (Jenni) Lawrence; his father figure, Bill (Joyce) Wenzel of Clinton, and his special girl, CJ.
