Marvin J. Garlough, Jr, age 88 of Clinton, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2022 at Mercy One Hospital. A Memorial will take place at 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 5th at Zion Lutheran Church with a service 11:00 am. A luncheon will follow in the church hall. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Marv was born in Eldridge on October 5, 1933, the son of Marvin and Gladys (Pennock) Garlough, Sr. He graduated from DeWitt High School and worked as a farm hand for several farming friends before joining the U.S. Army and serving in Germany. After the Army, he married Deloris Boehde on September 16, 1956 at Zion Lutheran Church in Clinton (66 years). Marv worked for E.I. DuPont most of his adult life in Coating, as a pipefitter and in maintenance till he retired in 1985. At the same time, Marv worked a part time job running the Ford Gum Machine route throughout the area and started his own business, ‘Marv’s Taxidermy’ from his home. He even taught a taxidermy course at Clinton Community College.
During his busy life, Marv always found time to nurture his passion for the outdoors through hunting, trapping, fishing and gardening. He loved to bowl, and was a regular on teams and in tournaments, as well as a member of the Clinton Bowling Association and is an inductee to their Hall of Fame. Marv was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Loyal Order of Moose and the Amvets. He was also a fan of the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes.
Marv is survived by his wife Deloris; 2 daughters, Lori (Derek) Wolcott of Spokane, WA and Janet (Henry) Madsen of St. Maries, ID; a son, Larry (Lori Richter) Garlough of Morrison; 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and a brother, Lynn (Alverta “Sparky”) Garlough of Harrodsburg, KY.
