Martin G. “Marty” Ray, age 81 of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at his home. In following Marty’s wishes cremation rites will be accorded. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Saturday, June 25th at the Pape Funeral Home.
Marty was born in Maquoketa, Iowa on December 10, 1940, the son of LeRoy and Ella (Teshak) Ray. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1958 and attended Clinton Community College. He served with the Iowa National Guard and was on active duty during the floods of 1965, 1967 and 1969. Marty married Linda Lee Carlsen on September 9, 1967 in Clinton. Marty was a Millwright at E.I. Du Pont for 39 years. He was a commercial fisherman for 36 years. He loved living along the river and enjoyed the wildlife. He had taken 4 hunting and fishing trips to Canada. Marty enjoyed his morning coffee time with his buddies at the Lyons Filling Station and playing golf at noon at Canyon Creek where he had shot a hole in one.
Marty is survived by his wife Linda; 3 children, Michael (Lou) Ray of Clinton, Richard Ray of Villa Park, IL, and Beth (Tim) Thibodeaux of Cypress, TX; 3 grandchildren, Derriek Ray, Erin Ray (Judd LaBarr), and Logan Thibodeaux; a great granddaughter, Jordan Jo Ray; a sister, Pricilla (Denny) Martindale; a brother-in-law, Les Shields, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joanne Shields. The family would like to thank Beacon of Hope Hospice for their care of Marty.
