Mark S. Calcote, age 65 of Clinton, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. In following Mark’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Celebrations of Life will take place at a later date in both Clinton and on the island of Bonaire. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Mark was born on April 12, 1959 in Mobile, Alabama, the son of Gerald and Betty (Dudanski) Calcote. He graduated from Iowa City West High School and attended the University of Iowa. Mark married Janice Burg on October 15, 1983 in Clinton. Mark was the Sales Manager at McEleney Motors for 26 years. He owned and operated Kendrick Pest Control in Clinton, as well as Denny’s Pest Control in Iowa City, AAA Pest Control in Cedar Rapids, and Crown Exterminators in Morrison. He retired in 2021.
Mark and Janice spent the winters at their home on the island of Bonaire where he was an avid scuba diver. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who loved watching his granddaughters sporting activities. He enjoyed golfing and playing poker, even trying his hand at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. Mark was a handyman around the house and was a follower of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Alabama Crimson Tide. Go Hawks and Roll Tide!
Mark is survived by his wife Janice; 2 sons, Scott (Ami) Gaarde of Iowa City and Corey (Theresa) Gaarde of Oak Brook, IL; 3 granddaughters, Lauren (Tommy) Rapp of Phoenix, AZ., Claire (fiancé, Masen Miller) Gaarde of Iowa City, and Grace Gaarde of Iowa City; 2 sisters, Robin Gonzalez and Judy (Danny) Hoover, both of Oklahoma; a brother, Scott (Cindy) Calcote of Oklahoma and several nieces and nephews.
