Margaret S. Bertrand, age 99, of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at her home. Per Margaret’s wishes she has deeded her body for medical education and research to The University of Iowa, College of Medicine. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at Prince of Peace Parish. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 9:30 to 11:00 Tuesday at the church. A luncheon will follow the Mass at Prince of Peace. Burial will be at a later dated in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Margaret was born in Fulton, IL on June 20, 1924, the daughter of Henry and Josephine (Tomaszewski) Schimins. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1942. Margaret married Herman P. Bertrand on April 23, 1949 at St. Mary’s Church in Clinton. Herman passed away on October 25, 1970. Margaret had been employed as a lab technician at E.I. DuPont for several years. She was a member of St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, then Prince of Peace Parish and the National Catholic Society of Foresters. She enjoyed watching the birds in her yard, her flower garden, jig-saw puzzles, reading and cooking.
Margaret is survived by 7 children; Philip Bertrand of Columbus, OH, Susan (bob) Bergman of Clinton, David Bertrand of Clinton, Elizabeth Bertrand Farran of Clinton, Edward Bertrand of Clinton, Paul (Shannon) Bertrand of Las Cruces, NM, and Mary Ellen Bertrand of Clinton; 5 grandchildren, Jeff, Andrea, Katie, David, Paul, and Rainelle, and 14 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman; 2 brothers, Henry and Joseph, and 2 sisters, Mary Clara Jensen and Josephine Bentley, one grandson and one great grandson.
