Lyle W. “Sonny” Leibert age 93 of Clinton, passed away Sunday April 9, 2023 at MercyOne, Clinton. A private family service will be held at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
Lyle was born on May 24, 1929 in Clinton, IA, the son of Frank and Mary (Nichols) Leibert. He was a veteran of the US Army, private first class, during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1957. He married Eunice Norman on March 19, 1955, she died in 2014. Lyle worked as a machinist at Clinton Engines, Waukesha Engines, and Dresser Industries, Clinton. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting, and boating.
He spent imaginable hours on his boat and bringing home his “catch”.
Lyle is survived by his two nephews, Jim (Margy) Foley of Clinton, IA and Joe (Kathy) Matthiesen of Elkhorn, WI; four nieces, Barbara Larson of Morrison, IL, Dr. Christy Foley-Petty of Savanna, IL, Lynn Luckritz of Clinton, IA, and Jane Sandholt of Martinez, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Eunice, and three sisters, Maxine Matthiesen, Helen Foley, and Lucille Lord.
