LeRoy F. Buntemeyer age 94 of Clinton, IA, passed away Wednesday Jan. 25, 2023 at MercyOne, Clinton. A private family mass will be held at the Church of the Visitation, Camanche. Burial will be at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Clinton. Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
LeRoy was born on April 19, 1928 in Lincoln, NE, the son of Elmer and Hattie (Bals) Buntemeyer. He graduated from Lyons High School, Clinton. He was a veteran with the US National Guard. He married Ellen Petersen on Aug. 31, 1957 in Clinton, IA, she died in 2012. In 1940, his family moved to Clinton, IA, where he worked with the family furnace business. Later he farmed the remainder of his life off of Elvira Road in Clinton County.
LeRoy enjoyed hunting and fishing, coyote hunting, and was an exceptional duck caller, hunting with his friend, Ken Reusche and his brothers, Virgil and Jack. He was proud of his gardening, especially his pumpkins. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes, Nebraska Cornhusker, and Kansas City Chiefs fan.
LeRoy is survived by his three sons, Richard (Allison) Andersen of Valparaiso, IN, Barry (Judy) Buntemeyer of Goose Lake, IA, and Brent Buntemeyer of Clinton, IA; his son-in-law, Lowell Corkery of Waterloo, IA; his sister, Sr. Lydia Buntemeyer of Dubuque, IA; and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ellen, daughter, Cindy, and two brothers, Virgil and Jack.
I’m sorry to hear about LeRoy’s passing. We went to Lyons High School together and shared lots of memories. We’d kept in touch for quite a few years and I’ll miss catching up with him. My sincere condolences to all his family and friends. Marian

So glad to have visited with Leroy and Brent some time back at his home.. with pictures and sharing memories, shared from times years back, our family’s times together..The times long ago when Leroy and my Dad, Ken Reusche..Hunting pictures..Ia.National Guard times they had together. Leroy and Ken Memories..Leroy was there, as an always supportive Friend with visits to spend time with Ken,as my Dad’s health was failing. Leroy was there with Ken, till the end, being a pallbearer..Barry and Brent, your mention of Ken in your Dads Obituary, touched me deeply with Memories and Appreciation..As now Leroy and Ken..rejoined..everlasting..Barry, Brent,and extended family, once again my Sympathies..
