Laverne Houzenga age 92 of Clinton, IA passed away Thursday Oct. 31, 2024 at his home. Funeral will be held Monday 10:30 AM at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Sunday 1:00 – 4:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Fulton Township Cemetery in Fulton, IL. Casket bearers will be Kevin, Andrew, Justin, Cody, Colin, Austin, and Jace Houzenga, and Brad Holesinger. Honorary pallbearers will be Matt Wright, Scott Beasley, and Brandon Thompson. Laverne was born on Sept. 11, 1932 in Morrison, IL the son of Bertrum “Bert” and Anna (Buikema) Houzenga. He attended the Crouch School of Whiteside County. Laverne served in the US Army from 1952-1954. He married Sylvia Huebner on Feb. 1, 1955 in Clinton, IA; she died in 2013. Laverne farmed most of his life while also working at Allied Steel and Quality Concrete. He attended Crossview Church in Fulton, IL. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren and family activities, baking, scratch offs, feeding and watching his outdoor friends.
Laverne is survived by his six children, Colleen (Bud) Thompson of Fulton, IL, Richard Houzenga of Clinton, IA, Cindy (Bob) Holesinger of Clinton, IA, Kent (Brandi) Houzenga of Killen, AL, Steve (Stephanie) Houzenga of Garden Plain, IL and Scott (Nancy) Houzenga of Clinton, IA;
16 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; four sisters, Delores Stuart of Morrison, IL, Bernice Kyarsgaard of Camanche, IA, Jean Williams of Thomson, IL, and Ardella Houzenga of Savanna, IL; and many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife- Sylvia, grandson-Michael, two brothers-Bernard and Cliff, and a sister-Darlene.
