Joseph H. Witt, age 64 of Clinton, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2022 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Friday, September 9th at Prince of Peace Parish. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday at Prince of Peace. Pallbearers will be Kevin, Dan, Julie, and Ryan Witt, and Ryan and Sean Connell. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Joe was born in Clinton on November 1, 1957, the son of Vernon and Maureen (Cain) Witt. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School. Joe was co-owner and operator of Air Control, Inc. for 45 years. He married Carolyn Hagge on September 28, 2002 at Zion Lutheran Church in Clinton. He loved his faith and was a member of Prince of Peace Parish and a former member of the 29 Club and Gyro’s. Joe enjoyed golfing, being on the river, wintering in Scottsdale and boating on Lake Pleasant. He loved spending time with his family and friends, his time at Manning’s Whistle Stop, and tinkering with the 9 hole golf course for the Beaver Island Open. He was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Bears. He most loved his cabin life on Beaver Island with his wife..
Joe is survived by his wife Carolyn; 2 sons, Christopher Thomas of Bend, OR and Ryan (Elizabeth) Thomas of Kings Canyon, CA; a grandson Liam; 2 brothers, Fr. Steve Witt of Iowa City and Michael (Sue) Witt of Grinnell, IA; 4 sisters, Sheila (Mike) Coonen of Phoenix, AZ, Kathleen Witt of Scottsdale, AZ, Mary Pat Connell of Clinton, and Ann Pittman of Coralville, IA and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Tom, Jim, and Edward; a sister-in-law, Patti Witt, and a brother-in-law Mike Pittman. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Chad Pregracke’s Living Lands and Waters or Prince of Peace. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
