John Thomas Judge, 74, died Monday, September 15 at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on January 26, 1951, to Ambrose and Elsie (Mohr) Judge. He was raised on a farm west of Elvira and graduated from Northeast High School and St. Ambrose University. He worked in retail and manufacturing and owned and operated River City Comics in Clinton, Iowa for twelve years. John was the captain and MVP of the Wonder Who trivia team, and he loved all forms of performance media, especially British mysteries on PBS. He loved music, books (especially Kurt Vonnegut), game shows, and Marvel movies. Hospice at Eagle Point made it possible for John to go see “The Fantastic Four” at the theater just last month which made him so happy. He was an Iowa sports fan and followed the WNBA.
He is survived by his sisters Theresa and Cathy, Clinton; and Rose, Iowa City; sister-in-law Sandra, Camanche; and his special helper, his nephew Matthew Aaron Judge, and by 5 nieces and nephews, 8 grand nieces and nephews and one great grandniece. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, James, Eugene, and Lawrence, and one sister-in-law, Patricia.
At John’s request, there will be no funeral or internment service. A family celebration of his life will be held at a later date. The family requests that you celebrate John by connecting with a senior in your life for conversation and fellowship.
The family is grateful for the compassionate care John received at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and for the exceptional hospice care that he received there.

I was a classmate of John’s. K-12, and lived not far from him. During our teen years, I was always in awe of his intelligence and knowledge of current issues and events in our Country and world. I was not aware of where his life journey had taken him so it was interesting to read about his many interests and talents. Condolences to John’s surviving sisters, as I fondly remember you, also.
John was a great guy. When he owned River City Comics, I was a frequent visitor. My wife loved it for he knew just what to have her buy for Christmas and birthdays for me. He was a great guy and got me a lot of my collection from new comics to back issues he had in the store.
The Lord bless and keep the family.
