Janell Lea Howard age 83 of Camanche, IA passed away Saturday Jan. 25, 2025 at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Camanche, IA. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Online condolences maybe left at www.papefh.com.
Janell was born on March 17, 1941 in Clinton, IA the daughter of Marvin and Lois (Spooner) Jech, Sr. She graduated from Clinton High School and later from Clinton Community College. She worked at Jane Lamb Hospital and later Mercy Medical Center in Information Technology. She was a founding member of the Church of the Open Door, where she had started Outreach Ministries which are still going today, and the Ladies Casserole Club. She enjoyed quilting, antiques, and dirt therapy “gardening”.
Janell is survived by her 3 sons, Robert Nichols of Jacksonville, NC, Corey (Tami Redman) Nichols of Clinton, IA, and David Nichols of Clinton, IA; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; her step-son, Joseph (Rachel) Howard Jr. of Camanche; her step-daughter, Patricia Colbert of Sacramento, CA; 8 step-grandchildren and 21 step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her great grandson, Christian, her great granddaughter, Maxine, 2 step-daughters, a step granddaughter, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Many thoughts and prayers for Janells family. She was my very first boss and a great one at that! She guided me many ways to who I am today. God’s Love
Janell was such an inspiration. She handled life well and showed the Lord’s strength and peace in all she did and whatever situation she faced. I will miss her on this earth and look forward to the reuniting in heaven.
