Irene H. Johnson – 89

Irene H. Johnson, age 89 of Camanche, IA, formerly of Ottumwa passed away Friday, February 1, 2019, at Mercy Medical Center in Clinton. According to Irene’s wishes she will be cremated with interment in Ottumwa Cemetery, Ottumwa, IA, at a later date. Pape Funeral Home is taking care of arrangements in Clinton. Irene was born on March 28, 1929, in Creston, IA, the daughter of Carl and Zelma (Parker) Jessen. She married Kenneth W. Johnson on March 26, 1949, in Creston, IA. He died in December 2000. She graduated from Creston High School in 1947. She was known for her volunteer work, daycare for children she loved as her own, and her commitment to churches she attended in each town where she lived. She loved spending time with her family and friends, crocheting, sewing, reading, and sharing her baked treats with everyone.

Irene is survived by her two children: Marquita (Randy) Pace of Kansas City, MO, and Michelle (Daniel) Schadt of Clinton, IA; 3 grandchildren: Erin (Karrin Daniels) Schadt of Edmonds, WA, Jocelyn (Joshua) Meyer of Clinton, IA, and Robert (Paige) Schadt of Clinton, IA; 2 great-grandchildren: Ezekiel and Samuel Meyer of Clinton, IA and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her two brothers, Carl Jr. and Richard, and one sister, Doris. She will be missed by the many people who knew and loved her as mother, grandmother, and friend.
